Why this Fund?
Wayne and Carol Gullstad lived in Ladysmith for four years prior to moving to the Seattle area in 1999. They reflect on those years in discussing the events that led to this fund.
“Though we were only in Ladysmith for four years, it feels as much like “home” as any other place we’ve lived. The warmth of the community is unique.
We enjoyed success in our efforts to revitalize the old paper mill, although not without significant struggles. Success, however, would not have been possible with-out a terrific, dedicated work force and a supportive community.
Around 2007, after time to reflect on our experience in Ladysmith, we decided to do something significant to benefit the community. We started by talking with Dan and Kathy Gudis. They helped us decide on schools as a great place to do some lasting good.
Dan and Kathy put us in touch with Mario Friedel. Mario and Bill Rands had already started a fund to benefit Ladysmith Schools. It was a perfect fit for what we wanted to do.
This fund is dedicated to providing lasting and meaningful benefit for the students of the Ladysmith School District. It is intended to give students access to re-sources and experiences they could not otherwise attain in their normal school routine. We could not be happier to have the opportunity to contribute.
“Thank you Dan, Kathy, Mario and Bill for helping us make a lasting contribution to the great community of Ladysmith.”
